Lighthouse Outreach Programs
IN-CLASS ABSTINENCE EDUCATION
The Lighthouse Project provides in-class abstinence education to students in grades 6-10 within Planning District 23 during their Family Life class time. Students are taught using Choosing The Best curriculum, which covers such topics as "Sex, Emotions, and Self-Respect", "Saying 'NO' and Courage", "Setting Goals", "Avoiding Pregnancy" and much more. The content includes videos of today's teens as well as reviewed and medically accurate information. The in-class abstinence education program allows students to receive life saving information while at school.
DARE TO DREAM YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
The Dare to Dream Youth Empowerment Program allows youth in grades 9-12 to join the Youth & Family Education Specialists at Lighthouse for a very exciting and beneficial program. This intensive program includes curricula from Possessing Your Power, Aspire, New Youth Entrepreneur, Unlocking Your Potential, and True Colors. Incorporating all these curricula provide participants with an insight into leadership, career development, and job readiness. Program participants undergo a job fair and mock interviews as well as field trips to enhance the experience and emphasize the importance of obtaining financial self-sufficiency before engaging in sexual activity. Dare to Dream Youth Empowerment Programs are held throughout the year, contact us for more information or download the application here.
PARENT TABLE TALKS
The Lighthouse Project believes that the most powerful influence in a youth's life is parents. In an effort to strengthen the bond and communication between parent and child, Lighthouse provides parents with educational workshops called "Parent Table Talks". Table Talks are designed for the purpose of teaching abstinence until marriage, building healthy relationships, and providing basic information about health risks associated with adolescent sexual activity (STD's, STI's and HIV/AIDS). The program will also provide tools to discuss negative media influences, the economic consequences of teen parenting, and implementation of the 40 developmental assets. Contact us to find out the next scheduled Parent Table Talk.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES
In order to reach a broader audience in the school systems, The Lighthouse Project provides students in Middle and High School with entertaining and inspiring school assemblies. Lighthouse assemblies provide abstinence awareness, and serve as a means of recruitment for youth and adult program participants. Featuring motivational speakers who know how to connect with students, these assemblies urge youth to avoid risky behaviors. These presentations have proven to be an effective means of communicating with the youth of Hampton Roads.
COMMUNITY RALLIES AND ANNUAL SUMMIT
The Lighthouse Project employs a community saturation model to ensure all members of the Hampton Roads community are supportive of the youth and encourage avoidance of risky behaviors. In order to reach out to the community at large, community rallies and an annual summit are conducted each year. These special presentations are designed to promote the abstinence until marriage message and disseminate program information to the community. Each of these events will bring together national and local speakers, youth advocates, mentors and successful graduates. Special presentations will be made by professional athletes, performing artist, local businessmen, and State dignitaries who believe and support the messages of abstinence until marriage, responsible fatherhood and building healthy relationship. Don't miss out on these exciting events, contact us to find out when the next one is!

PARTNERSHIPS WITH CHURCHES & OTHER BUSINESSES/ORGANIZATIONS
The Lighthouse Project partners with various different faith-based, youth-serving, and other organizations. Partnerships are typically designed to train teachers, youth leaders and healthcare professionals on the curricula utilized by Lighthouse, while simultaneously continuing to seek other professions that have an interest in supporting the message of abstinence until marriage. Trainings also consist of collaborative partners, community leaders, youth, parents and volunteers for capacity building. In addition to abstinence curricula training, Lighthouse Project staff and community partners will have an opportunity to attend workshops that include but not limited to: current data on youth risk behavior trends, risk and protective factors, interconnections, age of debut, prevention strategies, building effective collaborative teams and project sustainability for project staff and community partners. Please contact us if your business or organization is interested in partnering with Lighthouse.
